Vera's Big Day

Vera

Without your support, Vera never would have had her big day. This 5-year-old beautiful tabby cat was surrendered to our El Cajon Campus by her family when they couldn't care for her any longer. Once in our care, we discovered that Vera was in pain because of her health issues. Our veterinary team immediately took Vera into care, diagnosing severe dental disease and conjunctivitis.

Vera's blood work showed she was having an inflammatory response, likely from the dental disease and because she was covered in fleas. The medical team began a treatment plan to help Vera feel better, including giving her antibiotics along with eye and flea medicine. They also scheduled her for dental surgery at our Pilar & Chuck Bahde Center for Shelter Medicine at our San Diego Campus.

After surgery, Vera needed time to heal, and that's just what we gave her. As we addressed Vera's health, we also gave her love and attention.

Vera shied away from new people, but we found that with some patience, we could earn her trust and affection. When our staff gave her a break from her recovery cone, she rolled over on her back, purred and reached out with her front paws. She happily accepted full-body pets. As Vera healed, her pain subsided and she became friendlier with more people. Finally, she was ready to go home.

Vera

Because of you, we can help pets like Vera feel safe. And, we can give them shelter, specialized medical care and love for as long as it takes to find them homes. And sure enough, Vera's big day finally came when a family adopted this sweet kitty and took her home.
