A Loving Home For Lady

Lady

13-year-old Lady

Looking at Lady's sweet face, you'd never guess that she spent more than three months at San Diego Humane Society waiting for a loving home.

This affectionate, 13-year-old miniature schnauzer was brought to our San Diego Campus by her previous owner, who didn't have time to care for her. Lady was clearly struggling with a long list of health issues that had gone unaddressed. She was suffering from severe dental disease, masses beneath her skin and anemia. Her eyes were clouded with cataracts and her liver enzymes were elevated. Her combination of symptoms led our veterinarians to test Lady for Cushing's disease—a test that came back positive.

We gave Lady the immediate treatments she needed—from dental cleaning and tooth extractions to a special diet. Through it all, Lady was an easygoing and lovable dog. We knew she'd make a wonderful companion, but her diagnosis of Cushing's disease meant she'd need a special family willing to support her unique needs.

Lady spent weeks, and then months, waiting to catch an adopter's eye. Our staff even took her to media appearances, hoping to give her additional exposure. But after she'd been in our care for more than three months, something incredible happened: A woman whose previous dog had also had Cushing's disease came in to meet Lady! Knowing right away that it was the right fit, she brought Lady home the very same day.

Because of you, Lady gets to spend her senior years in a loving home with a family that has plenty of time for her. Her happy ending is part of your legacy of compassion.
