Stanley Gets a Second Chance

Stanley looking disheveled

Stanley came to us scared and disheveled

Stanley is a 4-year-old poodle whose life was transformed with the help of your generous support. Stanley’s journey with us began when our Humane Law Enforcement officers were called to recover a stray dog who was hiding in a front yard, visibly scared and avoiding anyone who approached. They were able to leash him and bring Stanley into our care.

First up was a bit of grooming! Stanley’s coat was overgrown and matted, so we gave him a fresh cut. Additionally, our medical veterinary team worked to treat Stanley for a mild dental disease that had been plaguing him. Your support allowed us to provide him with the physical and medical attention he desperately needed.

But Stanley’s needs were even more than physical and medical. Because his behavior remained anxious and slightly aggressive toward his handlers, they quickly recognized that Stanley needed special attention. He was enrolled in our Behavior & Training program to give him the opportunity to learn, grow and ultimately become more comfortable around people. It is thanks to you, our incredible Humane Heritage Circle members, that we could offer this crucial program to Stanley and many others like him.

A haircut was the first step to a new life

Happily, Stanley began to trust the staff caring for him, becoming more calm and collected in the shelter environment. This was aided by our specialized facilities for dogs living in our Behavior Center. Support from friends like you has provided state-of-the-art facilities that mitigate the impact of shelter life on wary animals. By having his own quieter space and access to regular training, Stanley began to conquer his fears and we felt he was ready for adoption.

After six weeks in our care, a kind senior couple visited Stanley and instantly felt a connection to him. With helpful tips from our staff on how to keep working with Stanley, they brought him home and provided him with a safe and loving environment. Their dedication and commitment to helping Stanley integrate into his new family encouraged him. Without your support, this beautiful adoption story might not have been possible.

Your donations saved Stanley’s life and brought hope to a scared and misunderstood little poodle. Thanks to your generosity, he was given a second chance at happiness, surrounded by the warmth and love he deserved.

As we continue to work toward our mission of saving and improving the lives of animals, we remain deeply grateful for your unwavering support. You have the power to save animal lives, and Stanley’s story is just one shining example of the difference you make for animals in need.
