Asia’s Next Chapter

Asia

Asia is a shy but loving lap cat who is excited to begin the next chapter of her quiet life with her new companion, Raeden.

Sometimes a major life milestone comes with unfortunate side effects for our beloved pets.

That’s what happened to two-year-old Asia when her owner welcomed a new grandchild into the house. When the grandchild started showing allergy symptoms around Asia, the family made the difficult decision to rehome her.

Shelter life didn’t suit Asia very well, especially at first. She had some real anxiety upon arrival, trying to avoid her handlers and giving them signals to keep their distance. Our behavioral team made an assessment and determined her standoffishness was likely a result of the dramatic change to a shelter environment.

During her two months in our care, Asia’s personality began to emerge. She turned out to be a loving lap cat who enjoys head scratches and playing with toys. She might always be a little on the shy side, we realized, so potential adopters were counseled about how to slowly introduce Asia to her new home and give her time to adjust.

One day, Raeden arrived looking for a companion to share his apartment with. He had experience owning cats, but currently had no other pets. When Raeden met Asia, he fell in love and pledged to earn her trust and give her the quiet life she craved.

This is exactly the outcome we work toward with every pet who comes into our care. Thanks to support from our generous community, we can make sure all animals find the right match, just like Asia did.

Success stories like Asia’s are only possible because of kindhearted animal lovers like you. Your generous legacy gift will directly support animals in need. Please contact Katie Chalmers at (619) 798-0498 or KChalmers@sdhumane.org to learn more.
