Georgia’s Peachy Life

GeorgiaWithout your support, Georgia wouldn’t be living such a peachy life. This four-year-old pit bull was found wandering as a stray and was brought to San Diego Humane Society. She was in desperate need of care: She had severe hair loss along her lower spine, tail and hind legs. Her ears were filthy. And her skin was hard and dry with open scabs.

We brought Georgia to our Pilar & Chuck Bahde Center for Shelter Medicine, so our veterinary team could get right to work to help her heal. They gave her medicated baths to treat her skin and cleaned her ears with an antimicrobial flush. Doctors suspected that Georgia was allergic to the flea bites she had all over her body. After she was given flea medicine, they treated her painful skin issues by starting her on an antihistamine and antibiotic.

At first, Georgia was uncomfortable. She’d shake her head because of her itchy ears. She let out a little yelp during the towel dry after her bath. But Georgia was also the perfect patient, enjoying treats and seeking pets from everyone caring for her.

In time, Georgia’s skin showed signs of improvement. Her coat was shinier, and her scabs were healing. This sweet girl was ready to be spayed and placed for adoption! When her new family found her, we spent time helping them understand the special care Georgia would need and sent them home with medicine for her.

Several months later, here’s what Georgia’s adopter had to say:

“Georgia has been such a joy in our lives. It’s been just over four months since we adopted her. She loves car rides, walks around the park, cuddles and naps wherever there is somewhere soft to snuggle up! She knows how to pick a toy from her basket, she’s learned how to go onto the patio if she wants to sunbathe (where she has her own outdoor bed!), and she even likes to smile for the camera. We absolutely love Georgia to bits.”

When she first arrived in our care, this special pup was homeless and in need of medical attention—and now she’s thriving with her new family. Thank you for your commitment to animals like Georgia. Because of you, San Diego Humane Society is here to provide specialized medical care, shelter and love for thousands of animals every year!
