Hope and Healing for Velma

Velma

After recovering from her injuries and spending nearly a month with us, Velma got her second chance.

Every day, San Diego Humane Society has the opportunity to provide the kind of advanced medical care that's not often seen in shelters. Thanks to the generosity of friends like you, our veterinary team goes above and beyond every day to give sick and injured animals the second chance they deserve—animals like Velma.

This beautiful 2-year-old shepherd suffered severe injuries after being hit by a car. Fortunately, a good Samaritan found her and brought her to our San Diego Campus, where our veterinarians performed an emergency exam to identify and begin treating her wounds. Velma had suffered road rash and head trauma, and needed surgery to repair an open laceration on her left hind leg. But we were able to help her heal.

During her time in our care, Velma's resilience and sweet spirit shone through. She remained bright, alert and affectionate—and once she had healed, we couldn't wait to find a family that would appreciate this high-energy pup. After spending nearly a month at our San Diego Campus, Velma was adopted!

Thank you for being the reason that stories like Velma's, which begin with pain and uncertainty, end with hope and healing. We can only give animals like her a second chance because of you.

You can ensure San Diego Humane Society can continue to provide animals with the care they need, when they need it with a gift for the future. Learn more about this unique way of giving by contacting Katie Chalmers at KChalmers@sdhumane.org or (619) 798-0498.
