Ridley's Remarkable Recovery

RidleyEvery day at San Diego Humane Society, we witness the extraordinary transformations made possible by your legacy support. Because of friends like you, animals like Ridley who come to us with advanced medical needs can receive the lifesaving care they deserve.

Ridley's story is special. This sweet, 2-year-old border collie was transported to San Diego Humane Society as a puppy after Hurricane Irma in 2017, and we quickly found her a new home. As Ridley grew, she developed an extremely large mass on her head. Two years later, when her owners were no longer able to care for her, we welcomed Ridley back.

Returning to San Diego Humane Society turned out to be the very best thing for Ridley. She needed surgery immediately to remove the mass that had been left untreated, along with intensive reconstructive surgery. Thanks to your generosity, we were able to perform the advanced procedures Ridley needed at our Pilar & Chuck Bahde Center for Shelter Medicine.

"It was a marathon—a true team effort," says Dr. Im, one of the veterinarians who operated on Ridley.

Fortunately, a biopsy revealed that Ridley's masses were benign, but she still had a long recovery ahead of her. For weeks, our medical staff kept a close watch on her. When she was ready, we helped Ridley find a new family that saw the beauty behind her scars and was committed to helping her heal. Today, Ridley is safe, healthy and thriving.

Recoveries like Ridley's are only possible because friends like you are building a legacy of compassion for animals in need. Thank you for giving her a second chance.
