A Remarkable Rescue

For animals like Ariel, your support makes a lifesaving difference.

This sweet, 5-year-old miniature poodle was pulled from the ocean by a good Samaritan who saw her struggling to stay above water. When our Humane officers rushed to the scene, they found a cold and wet pup covered in painfully matted fur. The fact that she didn't drown is incredible!

Although she was shy, scared and shaking, we made Ariel warm and gave her comfort. In our hospital, we cleaned her up and treated her ear infection. And because her journey toward transformation started in the ocean, we named her after The Little Mermaid.

We don't know what Ariel endured before being rescued, but she was extremely shy and fearful. During her first few days at our San Diego campus, she was too afraid to let our staff touch her. But thanks to you, we're able to give animals like Ariel the patience and love they need. It didn't take long for her to come out of her shell. In fact, within a few days, she was jumping into our staff's arms to be carried out to the play yard!

By the time potential adopters began visiting with Ariel, she had completely transformed. She had an adorable new haircut and was climbing into her visitors' laps. It didn't take long for someone to fall in love with her and welcome her into a new home, where she'll be kept safe and dry.
