A Family Reunion

Mama Dundie and her kittens—reunited, thanks to you.

San Diego's scorching heat this summer has wreaked havoc for many residents, but none more so than a new group of residents to our Kitten Nursery.

Earlier this summer, the Kitten Nursery received its largest litter of kittens when nine arrived without their mother. Concerned neighbors had brought the neonates in when a feral neighborhood cat left them in the sun, but they were unable to catch the mama to bring her in as well. Our staff and volunteers took to caring for them immediately, requiring over an hour for each feeding of this large litter!

However, these neighbors did not give up, and three days later, they caught the mother and brought her to us. Reunited with her babies, this mama cat, who was renamed Dundie, chirped at her kittens, relaxed and let them nurse. And, caregivers were thrilled to see how friendly Dundie was with people and how loving she was with her kittens.

Without you, we wouldn't have the Kitten Nursery, where we hand-raise orphans and let mamas like Dundie safely care for their babies. And, we wouldn't now know that Dundie is friendly with people, and can be spayed and then adopted into her own loving family.

Your generosity makes it possible for us to take in thousands of kittens like these nine, and adult cats like Dundie, every year. Together, we are reuniting families and saving countless lives—thank you.
